These You Tube links are all great videos of effective co-teaching.  They are outstanding examples of effective collaboration and creating the model co-teaching environment.  At its best, co-teaching takes proactive lesson planning from both educators.  One critical component of co-teaching effectiveness is planning time amongst the general education teacher and special education teacher.

Co-Teaching Examples

Throughout co-teaching, both teachers are expected to share the teaching responsibilities in a co-teaching classroom.  The special education teacher provides specialized, differentiated lessons for students with special needs. In other words, the special education teacher may be viewed as the strategist (which entails taking the standard lesson and teaching it in a different way so that the students with special needs can access the learning requirements, along with other students in the classroom).  This video briefly describes the six models of co-teaching and demonstrates two teachers working alongside one another in co-teaching roles.

How will we implement instruction to meet the needs of all students?  Throughout the planning process, both co-teachers develop goals to reach the academic and behavioral challenges of every student.  Based on the co-teaching model, the amount of planning time may vary.  The co-teaching lesson plan template serves as a guide for the regular education teacher and special education teacher.  Within it, both co-teachers can specify accommodations, modifications, differentiation, and enrichment.
