Students look at both African American history and the history of portraiture. Portrait subjects include Sojourner Truth, Mohammed Ali, Ella Fitzgerald, and Leontyne Price.
This set of four lessons is divided into grades K–2, 3–5, 6–8, and 9–12. The youngest students make their own photographic “calling cards.” Older students research portrait subjects.
