The fifth phase has the students learn editing techniques and write a final draft of their personal narrative. They celebrate their writing in a classroom reading where parents or peers from other classes can be invited to share their celebration of completing the writing process.

Student work will be used to guide students through revising written narratives. Students will listen to strong beginnings, descriptions, and endings. The students will learn punctuation, dialogue, transition words that improve writing and that they can put into their writer's toolbox of strategies. Students review what they have learned about the personal narrative and editing and proofreading. They revisit the writing process and understanding that revising a editing are different. Students create a classroom expectation sheet for proofreading and expectations based reading each other's work. These expectations are used to proofread revised drafts.
