Reviewer Comments:
- This is a bank of four narrative lessons and related links to resources designed to help students better understand their own culture and the culture of others. The topics of investigation are the Harlem Renaissance, Immigration, Modern American Culture, and World War II. Noteworthy activities suggested to enhance this theme of understanding cultural identity include: poetry coffee house, analysis of and critical response to various texts (art, poetry, literature, blogs), and cultural autobiography. There are several opportunities for students to make meaningful personal connections. This is powerful and meaningful multicultural content. These materials would be useful as supplements to 8th grade (or higher) Language Arts and/or Social Studies. Rubrics, lesson plans, WebQuests, and vocabulary would be need to be created to fortify these materials.
