This resource is a novel unit plan that is intended to be used by teachers as an introduction to the novel unit for A Secret Life of Bees. In this unit, students will analyze A Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd by focusing study around the following five major themes of the novel: loss of innocence, the relationship between parents and children, racism and prejudice, guilt and forgiveness. Students will investigate the novel in two major ways: a close reading of the novel through a mixture of group and independent study and thematic writing extension assignments. The unit products include ongoing reading responses, weekly exams, character diaries and a thematic literary analysis essay.
This resource is part of the The Secret Life of Bees collection.
