Controlling the cell cycle-the power of the cell holding all life functions.

Content topic:

a) Literacy-Book. “Stuck in Neutral.”-equity, moral issues, common themes of adolescence-emotional, empathy for one who would benefit from STEM CEll Research.

I can relate-compare and contrast my life to that of a person in a vegetative state.

b) Skills

*__? Write informative/explanatory texts, including the narration of historical events, scientific procedures/ experiments, or technical processes. (HS-LS1-1),(HS-LS1-6) Follow precisely a complex multistep procedure when carrying out experiments, taking measurements, or performing technical tasks; analyze the specific results based on explanations in the text.
-I can measure under the microscope I can graph time vs. growth rate for organisms being observed. I can summarize observations from chart form, into organized paragraph form. I can manipulate a microscope to control movement, light settings, magnification. I can name and explain the proper tools, as well as explain their uses in a science lab experiment. I can understand safety protocols for students, and the live organisms they are researching. c)Science-Cell Division, the Cell cycle. SS:Use a model to illustrate the role of cellular division mitosis and differentiation in producing and maintaining complex organisms
I understand the steps involved during mitosis, and all the changes that take place with the nucleus, and organelles in regards to cell processes, regenerative potential. I understand the cell cycle, and can compare/contrast how it differs with different tissues, such as nerve, muscle, skin, as well as identify triggers and switches that can control the cell cycle. I understand the definition of stem cells, and can apply this working definition to their potential uses for biotechnology and medicine I understand totipotent vs pluripotent, vs. normal cells from different stage and/or-places as well as the potential of differentiated human cells to be receptive to stem cell treatments. I can predict the consequences in a human body if mitosis goes out of control. d)Social Studies, Issues, biotechnology, laws and current events. Misconceptions, what will you be paying attention to as you do your research. HOMInfluence of Engineering, Technology, and Science on Society and the Natural World ? People’s needs and wants change over time, as do their demands for new and improved technologies. (35-ETS1-1) ? Engineers improve existing technologies or develop new ones to increase their benefits, decrease known risks, and meet societal demands. (3-5-ETS1-2)
*__? Draw evidence from informational texts to support analysis, reflection, and research. (HS-LS1-1),(HS-LS1-6)
I know the recent developments and advancements with stem cell research, as well as their societal, environmental, and medical applications. News articles, science journal articles. Constructive Response Learn to upload to currikki groups Upload to google docs. Have all word docs organiz
