This resource offers excellent lesson plans for teaching the themes of bullying and peer pressure through The Chocolate War (alternative titles with the same themes are offered as well). In an 18 page document, a five week lesson is provided. It also includes: background information, activities for group work, individual work, and on-going activities. Each week’s lesson offers: objectives; complete materials and methods for instruction; assignments; quotes, texts, video clips and supporting materials from related sources; questions to guide the reading; and assessments. Assessment for the unit includes: peer response journals, bullying information sheets, webquest presentations, poems, concrete representations of issue in the novel and a handbook or play. Also included is a lesson directing the student to write a letter to him or herself about bullying.
