Content here is introduction to functions and/or 2 variable equations, graphic display of data and number sense. This activity is a good opportunity for group work to be used as an introduction to new content. Using shoe laces is something almost everyone has experience with and can relate to as part of everyday life they take for granted. The CRT notes there are no answer key or possible student responses given. The suggested grades are 6 – 12 and the data provided only includes one or two items for each number of eyelets which may cause difficulty for patterns (line of best fit) to be determined.
Information - SportsLaces lp
Students are given a scenario where they need to figure out, from a table of data, what lengths of shoe laces to make and which lengths should go with which shoes.
