This resource is a powerful unit that focuses on Social Justice. The overview of the unit provides learning goals, essential questions, references to English Language Arts standards, and detailed procedures of the day to day lessons. The unit covers a variety of people and ideas including Malcolm X, Susan B. Anthony, and Gandhi. Students read speeches, watch movies, answer essential questions, and ultimately write an essay on a student-chosen contemporary issue. All of the materials are included. Overall, a strong unit that challenges to think about important issues and apply what they have learned to a structured writing assessment.
