This series of graphics can either be used as a PowerPoint or posters to help students understand Author’s Purpose. Each graphic asks a question designed to help the student think. For example, to consider if the author’s purpose is “to inform,” the student is asked, “Does the author include many facts about people and places?” Other queries are designed for the student to ponder if the author’s purpose is: to express ideas, opinions and feelings; to analyze; to persuade; or to entertain. The visual is a good tool to help the student determine author’s purpose.
