Introduction:
 

Pennsylvania is a great state! It has it all. Philadelphia is the birthplace of our nation. Erie has seven miles of beach on the warmest of the great lakes. Pittsburgh has the largest inland port in our country. And what city has been the capitol of Pennsylvania since 1812? You guessed it! Harrisburg. Finally, last but not least on our list of cities to explore, Gettysburg. Visit that Civil War battlefield and climb on some amazing rocks. Get ready for a fantastic learning adventure. It is your job to discover even more amazing things about these cities. You will look into some historical events for each city. You will get to know some of the people who are from that city or had an important role there. You will learn about the weather, climate, and geography. Finally, you will learn about the people from each city. When every group is finished, you will convince the rest of the class which city has had the biggest impact on the state of Pennsylvania or the country!
 

The Task:
 

Your task for this WebQuest is to discover all you can about your city. Each of you will have a specific job. We will need a historian, a meteorologist/geographer, a demographer and a biographer. When you have found out all you can about your city, your group will make a poster to persuade the rest of the class why your city has had the most impact on the state of Pennsylvania or the United States of America. Then, as a class we will vote to see which city is the winner.
 

The Process:
 

The class will be split into five groups of four people each. If you have extra people, then pair up on a specific job. Each group will be assigned a city.

First: Assign each member of the group a job as historian, meteorologist/geographer, demographer or biographer.

Second: Follow the directions below to gather information about your city according to your job.

Third: As a group, decide what information you want on your poster and why you think your city is the most important.

Fourth: Design and create the poster.

Fifth: Argue your opinion to the class.
