This resource guides students through the process of learning about the two major political parties. Students are provided with an overview of the political parties, conduct research on the political parties, and then apply what they have learned through a culminating activity in which they create a news affiliate. The lesson plan includes objectives, detailed procedures, and worksheets. While the lesson focuses on just Democrats and Republicans, it could easily be adapted to cover third parties depending on the individual classroom goals. It should be noted that the lesson is structured for a block schedule.
