Engage your math students' minds through music! Find and share math parodies to some of the most popular songs.

In this motivational rap music video, a familiar song with a catchy beat reviews the basics of slope-intercept form and graphing. Instructional note: I like to play math songs, raps, and videos as students enter the room to get them excited about exploring new concepts. I also use them to increase engagement during review activities for assessments. Students who are not even on my roster hear the music as they walk down the hallway and say, "Man, I wish I was in that math class!"

Motivational song video from They Might Be Giant's Grammy-winning album, "Here Come the 123s," comes an empowering song for young children as they learn to add.

This research-based article provides four practical strategies for using music in the classroom to promote students' active engagement in mathematics.

I chose to use this video because I feel that it is a great way to get your students to learn how to add/double their numbers. By having them learn through songs is helpful in helping them remember their addition.

This is a sing-a-long video that teaches how many days are in a week. Along with bright colors and a good song, it is interactive with the students and makes them do different things while singing and learning the days.

Funny math jokes for teachers and students

So, this is totally cheesy - but fun. Square One was a math tv show for kids on PBS way back in the day. It's very dated now (watch the music videos if you want a laugh), but really funny and would still be entertaining to elementary age students. Individual sketches are available on Youtube.com as well.

I chose this video because learning place value could be difficult at first for children. I recommend showing this video to your students, because not only are they able to hear and see what numbers represent which place value, but there are also the use of pictures which allow them to relate both the number and place value together.

This is a super catchy math song about fractions, to the tune of the Cup Song from the movie Pitch Perfect.

Here's a video from Teacher Tipster in which a teacher explains how he uses the place value song in the classroom.

This is great website to find math related songs and raps. I like that they provide lyrics as well as exercises that correspond with the videos. This is free, but if you are a paid member you can also access assessment materials.

I'm currently in the Early Diversity Practicum, and my class sings this song every morning. They love it, and so do I!

I discovered some really clear and well-structured math videos on the Khan Academy website - they are semi-animated and arranged very thoughtfully according to concept. These would make a great instructional support either as a whole group experience or individually.

An interesting, visual way to multiply!!!

The is a YouTube video with song and lyrics to help describe what the properties of addition are. It discusses three properties commutative, associate, and identity. This is a catchy song that students will be able to learn and will defiantly get stuck in their head!

Factoring In a Different Way

Some interesting ways to teach some mathematics properties.

this is a little video voiced by children to show how math can be difficult to some kids.

This is a song all about the coins. It describes the coins by singing about the President who is on the back of the coin. The lyrics also come with the song.

This is a great song about decomposing fractions.

Teaches how to use exponents within equations.

a fun song on how to do trigonometry mathematics

This is a link to YouTube that has many math songs that include counting to 100, counting down from 20, counting by 5s and 10s.
