• This lesson includes excellent resources to help students gain a better understanding of the genocide in Rwanda. The lesson begins with a review of previously learned content on the Holocaust but the bulk of the materials focus on Rwanda. There is a well written reading that provides an overview of the background and events of the genocide with interesting follow-up activities including having students organize cards chronologically based on what was learned in the reading and asking students to think about whether they would volunteer to fight in Rwanda. This is a complicated topic and this lesson is really useful in making the subject matter accessible to all students.
