• This is an excellent lesson plan with clear objectives, detailed procedures, and all of the materials necessary to introduce students to the sources of Nazism. The lesson has a variety of activities including an opportunity for students to access prior knowledge about the Holocaust, a reading with a follow-up partner activity, and flashcard homework assignments to help students learn some of the more challenging vocabulary words in the unit. While specifically written as the introduction lesson in a unit on Genocide, this could also be used within a unit that only focuses on the Holocaust or the World War II era. It should be noted that there are a few specific classroom references which would need to be changed.

  The reading provides background on the sources of Nazism, and students work with partners to create mini-posters illustrating the causes. Objective: 1) I will be able to describe the economic, historical, and cultural situation that gave rise to Nazism in Germany. Essential Question: "When can it be easier to blame someone else for your own problems?" This resource is part of Unit 5: Genocide and the Social Studies 7 course.
