- This is a thorough, creative, and organized unit plan that teaches students about important aspects of the life and career of Franklin Delano Roosevelt. The unit plan covers Social Studies and Science standards, objectives, goals, time allotments, key vocabulary words, and much more. There ares six individual lesson plans that provide teachers with step by step directions on how to implement the activities. Especially helpful are the frequent notes to teachers that provide valuable advice about the lessons. Some of the highlights include a Roosevelt Rap that highlights key parts of his life, connections to the use of solar energy to help FDR and an examination of his disability, a New Deal type advertisement, a WWII homefront page, a thank you letter to FDR, and an FDR play. All of the necessary handouts and links are included and referenced throughout the entire unit. While geared towards upper elementary students, many of these lessons could be integrated into units on the New Deal or WWII in a high school US History course.
