We all know as special educators, the first couple of days of school are very difficult.  We have to orient children to the school and classroom among all the other details needed.  It's a hard time to just jump in and teach!  Here you'll find some fun and free activities to keep children busy AND that can also give us some excellent information about what they really can do.

MY NEW CLASSMATES SCOOT GAME and 4 NEW FRIENDS INTERVIEW  Great 1st Day Activity!  MY NEW CLASSMATES SCOOT GAME and 4 NEW FRIENDS INTERVIEW allows students to get to learn names, get to know each other and also bring home their list of friends' names for wonderful communication opportunities with their families! Years ago a parent told me that her first grader was excited about meeting some new friends in class, but was having trouble remembering names. Ever since then, I have always done a Friends Activity where students bring home their new friends' names. This fosters better communication at home when families ask students about their new class!  Now I have turned our activity into a Scoot Game and Interview opportunity that is Common Core Aligned for Speaking and Listening Standards! Included: *MY NEW CLASSMATES SCOOT GAME: Directions and 3 versions of Recording Sheets to accommodate multiple class sizes *4 NEW FRIENDS INTERVIEW: Directions, Get-To-Know-You Questions Brainstorm poster and Recording Sheet *List of Common Core Standards for K-2 for Speaking and Listening StandardsFrom Silly Sam Productions - Teachers Paying Teachers

Name Graph Activities

by Stephanie Trevitz

Great activity for the beginning of the school year or anytime.  Love the use of the children's names, the fact that they use the information that their name, and therefore words, are made of letters, and that their name is different from others.
