This lesson uses photos and diagrams to illustrate scientific notation as used in the real world. There are also exercises for the student to complete. It would have been an excellent opportunity to challenge the student to use scientific notation to make estimates in the real world (for example, "How many sugar cubes would it take to fill the Superdome?")
