Reviewer Comments:
This is an extremely detailed and comprehensive unit on Harriet Tubman that integrates Social Studies and Science content. Technology and Language Arts standards are also addressed through multiple activities. Key concepts for this unit: colonial history, slavery, biography of Harriet Tubman, constellations, and geography. There are several avenues for creative expression and meaningful learning such as a play-doh topographical map of the colonies, a brochure, a time capsule and more. Guided by the principles of project-based learning (PBL), this unit is hands-on for the students and teacher alike. Consider picking just a few activities to focus on as there are many and they each require materials, research, and, in some cases, refinement. Rich in graphic organizers, printer-ready worksheets, and resources this is a valuable toolbox for novice and experienced teachers. Double check links - at the time of this review the link for the simulated Underground Railroad was not functional.
