You are one of the top travel agents out there today! The President of the United States term is coming to an end in two weeks. He has chosen you to be his personal vacation planner. The President has suggested two countries that he has never visited. It is up to you to choose which country he would enjoy the most and explain why. Hurry, time is running out!

The Task

Your job is to create a fun and informative brochure to persuade the President to choose your country for his vacation. Use your own creative style by using colors, images, ect. Find interesting information as well as adding personal opinions to your brochure. Do not copy and paste, the information should be put into your own words. Remember you are trying to make your brochure appeal to the President! When your brochure is complete, you will present all that you have learned to the class.

The Process

1. You will be assigned to a group with three other students.

  1. The two countries you can choose from are the Czech Republic or New Zealand, get together with your group and decide which one you think the President should visit!
  • Religion Expert: Your job is to find the two most popular religions in your country. Provide information about each one.
Using the given websites, research information about your country. Each expert is to have at least a paragraph (at least 8 sentences) written on their topic.

Once completing your individual assignment, come together as a group and finish the last five steps.


4. Your first step is to find a picture for the title pagethat relates to your chosen country. The title page must include your co-workers names, the country name, a picture, and anything else you would like to include.

5. You are free to place your information throughout the pamphlet.

6.All of the following must be included throughout this section: historical and popular places , restaurants and cultural cuisine, climate, and religion.

7.As the best travel agents you must now work as a group to write a paragraph on why you feel the President should take this vacation. Your personal opinions matter.

8. With the information you have gathered you will give a presentation to the class. Each one of you will dress in your countries native clothing (take into consideration the weather) and bring in an example of a common food for the class to try. Go over your brochure with the class explaining all that you have learned about your country.

10. Remember to be creative and have fun with it!


For the President to pick your trip each individual must include at least 4- 6 pieces of information on your topic about the country. Double check for spelling, grammar and punctuation. Include one or more images throughout the brochure. Be persuasive on why the President should pick your country, and present your information in a colorful, attention grabbing brochure.

Conclusion


As fourth graders, they have learned how diverse one country can be from another. This gave the children an opportunity to learn about another countries religion, cultural food, climate, and much more through their research. New Zealand and Czech Republic were chosen because they are two countries that are not as familiar to a fourth grader. Learning about something unfamiliar or out of the ordinary opens the minds of young children and they realize the world is not a one way door. The research done on the computer helps to build a student's use of technology, while writing the brochure also brings gains in writing and creativity skills. Cooperation and independence also took part in this web quest. Students were asked to work together to create the brochure and write a closing note, but also had seperate tasks and research.
