This resource guides students through the process of learning about the Chinese Civil War, the creation of a Single Party State, and culminates in an examination of issues around just wars. One key activity is the creation of a timeline that covers events from the fall of the Qing Dynasty to Mao’s death The introduction identifies essential questions, unit questions, IB themes, and key terms that would be useful to any teacher that is designing lessons on this time period. It should be noted that the lesson references the ESPRAT social studies framework and there is a link provided so teachers can be sure that their students have the necessary background information to understand the structure of the assignment. It also appears that the final part of the lesson is tied to other units that would have already been completed so teachers will most likely have to adapt the lesson to their particular classes.
