This resource is one unit in a series of lessons on China submitted by the World Affairs Council. The unit has background information, clear objectives, detailed procedures, and all of the necessary handouts to implement the unit. All of the materials are excellent. The content is current, accurate, and accessible to students at the recommended grade levels. There are a variety of different activities to engage students in learning about China’s environmental challenges. Some of the highlights include a quiz that tests students’ knowledge about the environment, a factsheet about the environment of China, an in depth role playing activity that uses primary sources, and a final assessment in which students research and write about one environmantal issue. The entire unit is immediately useful in a classroom as is, and many of the handouts and activities could also be stand alone lessons integrated into various content areas such as environmental science, geography, or economics.
