Reviewer Comments:
- This unit contains four weeks of material for high school students studying the chemistry of life. The unit begins with clear enduring understandings, essential questions and unit objectives. Each objective is presented in a table format, along with a variety of learning activities. Embedded documents and links support each objective and include: safety resources, a textbook scavenger hunt which familiarizes students with the text, rubrics for lab reports and scientific inquiry, and an excellent “Template Using Sticky Notes”, a tactile way for students to organize and analyze their scientific investigations. Included with most objectives are links for additional resources. The instruction sections are quite brief and teachers would need to provide the content and procedures of many of the included activities. This unit is well organized and provides a solid base on which another teacher could teach these concepts, although new teachers may find the lack of specific instruction to be intimidating.
