This resource is designed for high school students. The lesson is aligned to standards for grade 11 in Virginia. “This lesson introduces students to the Aristotelian triad (logos, pathos, and ethos) used in creating and delivering a persuasive argument.” Students are asked to create a persuasive speech and an annotated bibliography according MLA guidelines. The resource is comprised of three intricate detailed lessons , each lasting ¾ - 1 ½ hours long. Materials, rubrics, MLA research information and technologies are provided. Eight examples of speeches based on the Aristotelian triad are included. Students listen to famous speeches and analyze them. Graphic organizers are provided for students to use for their own persuasive speeches. This is high level extremely useful and usable rigorous lesson to inform students how to write persuasive arguments.
