Pre-Requisite Knowledge & Skills:

Procedures:

  1. On the first day, students will see examples of Kente cloth from Arfica,
  2. Then they will start drawing geometric patterns on their mat board in pencil.
  3. Next students will use acrylic paint pens to color in the designs. I encourage them to outline their designs in opposite colors to make them stand out more.
Materials:

  • Mat board cut to about 5x8"
  • Pencils
  • Acrylic paint pens
  • Scrap paper
Modifications, Adaptations, & Accommodations:

A variety of materials can be used to make this, these are just items I had on hand.

Reflection:

Acrylic paint pens are permanent, so students had to be very careful and wear smocks.

Students didn't know what geometric was, so I had to teach them that. We discussed geometric vs. organic.

Projects will be displayed together by putting each of the students piece as part of a larger Kente cloth!
