Students, raise your hands if you like shopping? Now raise your
hands if you like going camping? I see a lot of hands. Well today we
are on a mission. Each group is going on a shopping spree with
five hundred dollars($500).
this project you are going on a shopping spree for camping supplies. You are to purchase items that you believe you would need to go
camping. You will need to add up the total amount of money you spent on
the items. Then you have to find out how much money you have left over
from the shopping spree. All members of the group will decide what to
purchase, then each member will have a different task. One member will
add up the total amount spent, another will find out how much money is
left over from the $500 budget, and the other student will check the
work using the online calculator(provided for you). Then as a
group, you will create a group poster with the items purchased and prices of each
item. On the poster there should be the total amount spent and money
left over from the shopping spree.
1. First you will be assigned to a group of three students.
2. Then each student will decide what part they will do in the group.
(Amount spent calculator, Amount left over from budget calculator, Work Checker)
3. Then as a group you will pick the camping gear that you want to purchase, using the three provided links for camping gear.
(print out a picture and price of each item)
4. Then one student will add up the total amount spent.
5. Then another student will find out how much money is left over from the $500.
6. Then the last student will use the online calculator to check all of the work.
7. Then as a group you will
create a poster with the pictures and prices of the camping gear you
purchased, and I also want you to put the total amount spent and how
much money was left over on the poster.
|Total Amount Spent (1, 25%)||Total is correct||Total is 5-10 dollars off of total||Total is 11+ dollars off of total|| |
|Amount of Money Left Over (1, 25%)||Amount is correct||Amount is 5-10 dollars off||Amount is 11+ dollars off|| |
|Budget (1, 25%)||Stayed in the $500 budget||5-10 dollars over the budget||11+ dollars over the budget|| |
|Poster (1, 25%)||Poster has picture of each item purchased, amount of each item, total amount spent, and amount of money left over||Poster is missing one to two of the elements (picture of each item purchased, amount of each item, total amount spent, and amount of money left over)||11+ dollars over the budget|| |
From this project you will have learned how to add and subtract three
didget numbers. The students will learn to add large numbers and
subtract large numbers, they will also learn how to spend money while
staying in a budget. From this lesson the students will also learn how
to check their work and work together as a team to create a poster.
